DESIGNING WITH SCALE
How scale transforms the experience of a space
Scale is one of the most powerful tools in interior design. It influences how a wallcovering relates to architecture, furniture and the proportions of a space. Large-scale wallcovering can transform this relationship,
shaping not only the wall, but the way an entire interior is experienced.

WHEN SCALE BECOMES PART OF THE ARCHITECTURE
Scale has the power to completely change how a space is experienced. A wallcovering can act as a decorative surface, but when a design is enlarged beyond the expected proportions, it begins to interact with the architecture itself.
Lines, shapes and compositions are no longer simply viewed as a pattern. They become part of the spatial experience influencing how we perceive height, width, rhythm and movement within an interior.
In large-scale wallcovering, the relationship between the design and the space becomes essential. Ceiling height, sightlines, furniture and architectural elements all influence how a composition is perceived.
Rather than repeating a motif across a wall, an oversized composition can be designed as one continuous visual landscape. This creates a calmer, more immersive result and gives architects and designers greater freedom to use the wall as an integral part of the interior concept.

THE ROOM SETS THE SCALE
A large-scale design is not only suited to large spaces. In a smaller interior, an oversized composition can actually create a sense of calm, as the eye is not constantly reading a repeating pattern.
LOOK BEYOND THE WALL
When determining scale, consider more than the dimensions of the wall itself. Furniture, doors, windows, ceiling height and the distance from which the wall is viewed all influence how a composition is experienced.
A wall seen from across a lobby or entrance requires a different approach from one experienced at close range. The strongest results come from considering the wall as part of the complete interior.
FROM DESIGN TO DIMENSION
CREATED AROUND THE ARCHITECTURE
With seamless wallcovering, a design does not have to be limited by standard dimensions or a fixed repeat. The composition can be considered in relation to the architecture of the space itself.
Wall dimensions, ceiling height, sightlines and architectural elements can all be taken into account, allowing the design to feel naturally connected to the interior rather than simply applied to a surface.
FROM WALL SIZE TO FINAL COMPOSITION
At daisy james, our seamless wallcovers are produced to project-specific dimensions. For selected projects, scale and positioning can also be adjusted to create the right visual balance within the space.
Architects and interior designers can share floor plans, elevations or project dimensions with us. Together, we can consider how the composition, scale and material can best respond to the architecture and the overall interior concept.
